Police
are investigating the first case of
organ trafficking in
Australia. An elderly Sydney woman with a kidney condition may have trafficked
a younger woman from the Philippines. The deal was allegedly made without the
donor’s full consent and was discovered during screening interviews at a Sydney
hospital in March. The Minister for Justice, Brendan O’Connor, said ''Irrespective
of the type of exploitation, human trafficking follows the same premise: that
people are trafficked to supply a demand - be it sex, labour or human body
parts,'' he said. Investigations are continuing. ~
