A Swedish paediatrician originally cleared in the 2008 mercy killing of a terminally ill infant will face charges of manslaughter, according to prosecutors in Sweden. The prosecutors filed charges even though Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare cleared the doctor of any wrongdoing in 2009. The accused doctor’s lawyer said his client was devastated. The doctor is accused of speeding up the baby’s death by administering a high dose of anaesthetic combined with morphine, according to Swedish news agency TT.
